Yep! I think Apple nailed itself on this one, it they arent gonna come out with iPhone 4 this summer, this will be a way to increase sales until then. Besides, its like the Wii getting a new color and everybody goes crazy for it bcus its the first time they've done it.
I think the next iPhone won't be called the 'iPhone 4' that would be confusing.
Maybe they will call it the 'iPhone 4 II'
So what will happen? I guess its just avoiding competition, last year you guys remember all those Android phones coming out? Evo 4G, Galaxy S, Droid Incredible? By moving it they'll have more room during the holidays, iPhone is the new iPod these days.
Seriously, I don't think you youngin's get it.
Apple doesn't compete with anyone.
They just do their own thing.
Really.
For the first fifteen years they didn't even have commercials.
Then when they did, they just did them for fun.
You see how they show them off at the keynotes.
They are so proud of them. They don't even try to sell the product.
They just point the camera at the new thing and spin it around.
And Cut!
They don't care about Android, they don't even care about stock prices or profits.
I have never seen any change in how they act.
The first 10 years of Apple's existence they were drowning in money
Then in the mid nineties they had only a little to work with.
Now they are drowning in money again
I saw no change in their behavior at all.
They just make fewer mistakes now.
And as always, they do their own thing.

Hello,
I don't want to start a Mac/PC/Hackintosh debate. Yet what those hackintosh prove is that Apple is charging a "Mac Pro tax" of around 1000$, +/- a few hundreds depending on configuration. Even if that tax was only 500$ +/- a few hundreds, the question remains: why?
Now don't answer that it's the general Apple tax. How can Apple sell the iMac, which offers very good power (some even rivalling the MP), very good graphics on everything but the base model, an incredible display, more RAM than the base MP model, for a very very good price? Add to that the fact that iMac are rumored to be upgraded in the next few days/weeks with Sandy Bridge.
So again, why does Apple charge that MP tax?
Loa
You are comparing consumer chipsets to workstation grade chipsets. Spec out an HP z800 against a Mac pro and you will find the prices extremely similar and competitive, the only thing Mac Pros have been off with is the graphics card selection, but that is getting better as of late.

I'm also curious as to the 'waterproof-ness' of the model. if we're using it while exercising or skiing or in the garden - it's going to get rough and diry and moist. For such a small player (cool as it is) you almost need something protective on it (maybe a film product).
Wonder if the aluminum makes it have some kind of weight - the stick ones were almost too light...

Ugh... I hope that could be turned off. Scrolling through a folder full of moving icons would be like scrolling through some of those obnoxious web pages full of animated GIFs.
Yeah it can be turned off. It's actually off by default. Not only would it be obnoxious, but could really take some time to load and a lot of overhead to manage.

Remind me to disbar you from being on the jury at my trial. You cannot possibly hold that this lunatic was justified in his actions.
I'm with Tomorrow on this one.
It sounds like they both share responsibility. He was trying to get away from an argument. She escalated the situation by jumping on the car ().
Should he have stopped? Yes. Which is why he shares some of the blame. But she put herself in harms way in the first place. She should have just let the guy drive away.

I just back from Best Buy after pre-ordering an iphone 4. There were 4 models to choose from, White or Black, 16gb or 32gb. There was a $50 deposit, for which I received a BB gift card which will be used when I pick up the phone, and I now have an scheduled appointment at BB so I'm guaranteed to get it on the release date - plus, I won't have to wait in any lines when I get there.
Prior to going to BB, I tried to order a phone online through Apple as well as AT&T. The Apple website got stuck at the point where I selected the phone I wanted. The AT&T website did not show the iPhone 4 as an option. Don't bother calling AT&T to try an order the new iphone - they will not take your order and will just refer you somewhere else.
How did you secure an appointment to get set up? Which color did you get? I preordered 2 white iPhones 1st at the local Best Buy, but they weren't able to set an appointment for receiving and setting up the iPhone but said they'll call me "soon" to set one up.

I thought you weren't doing bigadv right now;) I'll try it with 11 to see what happens.
i wasn't earlier, but when i finally starting getting things working like i wanted, i was able to start back up with bigadv units again. which is why my points are higher now. and i think i might have finally got one of my systems where i want (over 4 ghz). we'll see how long it lasts.
let us know have -smp 11 works

Rental via download: yes!
Purchase: no!
If I want to own, I want the disc. Burning answers that mostly, but a nice box set is still preferred.
But the point is, I seldom WANT to own. It's not like music. I seldom want to watch the same movie again. So let me rent--at a price that's low enough to be reasonable at whatever quality they deliver.
If quality is sub-DVD, the price had better be sub-Netflix and the selection had better be great. (Which is unlikely to happen quickly--but eventually.) Convenience/instant gratification do add some value, but I won't compromise too much on quality. (iTunes TV shows are OK quality for a missed episode, not good enough to collect and keep. For me.)
So I hope Steve Jobs gets over his no-rental mindset on this.

That is way cool! Probably some practical issues (like how to not block the camera while you are flipping it around), but it looks really effective with no glasses, I'm impressed.

Once upon a time iLife came out every year and had incremental updates to each of the programs, sometimes adding a new program by surprise. We all knew to expect the iLife update each year and I purchased every update without hesitation.
Fast forward to the disruptive time in iLife's history, the killing of iMovie HD.
That marked the end of iLife as we knew it. No longer would we see nice improvements of our favorite iLife apps each year. No, now we are on this kill iLife crusade. Next up, kill iDVD just when it was really getting good.
I miss the old days of knowing that each year brought a new iLife. It was fun and exciting. Now I can't even get the RAW photos off my MC-LX5 camera because iPhoto can't read them.
Ok Apple, I played ball, I just bought a new 2.8 Mac Pro Tower of Power.
But, just like iLife 11, I am still waiting on it to ship.

I'd like to see a lot more weight put into iPhoto.
With the steep price declines in DSLRs, proliferation of smart phones with better cameras, etc. people are taking more photos than ever before. The result is that the photo management and editing tools that only pros used to need are needed and by more and more hobbyists and casual photographers. If they could pull in some tools from Aperture and more robust photoshop-like tools (layers, dodge and burn, spot healing brush, etc.?) it would make a lot of people happy.
As for the current feature set, it would be nice to see more powerful facial recognition (profiles, better job with babies and children).
I'd also like to see some tighter integration with Mail since family email photos all the time. Rather than just be able to right click and add the shot to iPhoto, how about the ability to create an event, label faces all in Mail and then add to iPhoto.
One of my biggest gripes though iPhoto's lack of integration with AppleTV. If I take movies on my camera or even my iPhone, it syncs to iPhoto but only the photos will sync with AppleTV. The only way to watch these movies is to render them in iMovie, Handbrake or another similar program and then add them to iTunes. What a pain!!!

I have one that is dropping calls 1/4 of the time. Was at Apple store. An employee there bought a bumper for his. He sounded frustrated over the dropped calls. You fanboys got to come up with something more that people are morons or whining over it. I assure you this issue is quite real.
Out of curiosity did you have a case on your iPhone 4 when you had all of these dropped calls?
No. Don't want one. They look ridiculous.
